2012 Brings New Opportunities
February 3, 2012 by Ruth
Hello for those who pop in every so often to see where I am. I have been away or not blogged for 1 year, and a lot has happened in that year. I have made many cards and gifts, taken photos of various different things and just been busy, challenged with 2 beautiful girls and keeping a husband sane whilst he studies.
I was relfecting the other day about technology and life. (I also notice that channel 7 showed a story on their morning show about a student in the US that cut off technology and went back to the telephone and letter writing to see what life was like without facebook, the interet etc as he didn’t like where he and his mates were heading (down a path that didn’t include a great deal of verbal communication )
In the past I have written ‘Thinking of you cards’ to many of my friends and family. I have always thought this to be important. I am a bit of a lover of stationary and have always loved a hand written note or card from the post box. You see I went to boarding school and letters (besides the telephone) were the only forms of communication to stay in touch with family and friends that were a distance away. The internet was only starting to hit the streets of Australia as I was finishing high school and facebook was a future thought. With this all in mind I thought I would set myself a challenge, to get back into writing ‘Thinking of you or Praying for you cards’. I love the thought of seeing someone open my letter or card, praying and hoping it will brighten their day, particularly encourage them for what ever challenges or opportunities they have ahead of them.
You may think this challenge is easy, which I am sure it is. However I am setting the task of sending 10 cards out each week. that means by the end of the year I should have sent out 520 cards. The other part of the challenge is to make sure at least 5 of those cards are hand made! Not only is it nice to recieve a card in the post, but a hand made card is even slightly more exciting as you know that card has been made with love by someone who is thinking of you.
So over the coming weeks and months I would love to hear if you have made yourself a challenge like mine. Please come back and visit to see what my cards look like and hopefully I will be able to tell you a little story about each of them maybe even a little story on who those cards have touched.
I too am challenging myself to use less technology and more of the old ‘Postman Pat’!

January 25, 2011 by Ruth

Hello everyone or at least to those who have beening willing to come back and check if I am still here!!! Well the answer to that question is yes. I am sure you are wondering where I have been, well we were on holidays to central Australia for a month which was amazing in July 2010. We had so much fun and really enjoyed traveling with our friends from church.
I have included several photos of our adventure. Unfortunately I haven’t been stamping obvisouly given then fact we were restrcited on how much luggage etc could take (my cupboard just wouldn’t fit!!!) so please stay tuned to see some creations in the coming week or so.
We have also expanded our family to 4 with a little girl born in October. So the last year has been very busy and with pregnancy and I not mixing I haven’t been able to stamp. However at the end of last year I was able to do some so I will post some photos of my creations over the coming few days.
I hope your new year is going well and look forward to sharing more of my creations this year.

Still Alive!
June 10, 2010 by Ruth
Sorry for being so absent lately. You will be pleased to know my camera has returned and I have another tutorial I will put up which I am currently working on.
However, you may be wondering the reason for my absence. I am now officially 22 weeks pregnant so over the half way mark. You are most likely wondering how this effects my stamping, well unfortunately I suffer for major morning sickness resulting in me just surviving and looking after my daughter. I am pleased to report that everything is going well and I am now back in the land of the living!
I have quite a lot to report and quite a lot to show you. So please come back and visit and find out and check out the cards and things I have made.
I hope you have been well and enjoying your stamping or general craft creations.
Shall update my blog with some specials now.

Pretty Idea! Project Tutorial
February 6, 2010 by Ruth
Have you ever looked at a ‘Pretties Kit’ and thought ‘Surely I could use this for something else other than beautiful cards?’ Well I did and have the answer! When I am teaching classes I struggle to identify where my scissors are, and if you have the Stampin’ Up! scissors (which I would like to say are the best scissors I have ever used in my life) you will know they are to be prized and not to be missed placed. What better way to identify them with and be unique with a charm (yes I did have ribbon tied to them prior to today however I figure quite a lot of other people have ribbon). And because I am sure I will still have my pretties kit at the age of 80!!! (I have a long way to get there, I like to add) I thought I have another use for it.
I hope you enjoy the tutorial. Thanks to a Rainy day and help from my very good friend Sami I have successfully created my first tutorial. Please tell me what you think.
Supplies
- Pretties Kit (109114, page 149 IB & C 09-10)
- Tiger Tale (found at various craft stores in the beading section)
- Round nosed pliers (I used my ’Crafters’ Tool Kit’,104310, page 155 IB & C 09-10)
- Crip (found at various craft stores in the beading section)
Step 1 – Select the beads and pearls you wish to use and arrange them in a design. Cut a length of ‘Tiger Tale’ and loop around the handle of the scissors.
Step 2 – Thread the beads on the design layed out.

Step 3 – Thread the crimp on the end of the bead design.

Using the Pliers flatten the crimp so the beads cannot fall off the tiger tale.

Step 4 – You have finished making your scissors unique!!!
Please send me an email or post a comment. I have a few more coming up. So stay tuned!
